Graduate Initial Licensure

Not all teachers' backgrounds are the same

We know that not everyone follows the same path to a career in education, which is why we have created transition programs that help you achieve your goal of becoming a teacher—regardless of your background.

We offer the Aspiring Teacher Alternative Certification (ATAC) and District-Based Alternative Certification (DBAC) programs for Bachelor degree holders who are interested in obtaining an Indiana teaching license.

All applicants are required to submit their transcripts, with the degree conferral, to be reviewed for admission.

Priority application deadlines

  • March 1st for the upcoming Summer or Fall

Note:

  • Elementary ATAC or DBAC program begins once a year in the Fall
  • Secondary ATAC or DBAC program begins once a year in the Summer

Please contact Sharice Booker at sbreland@iupui.edu for information about applying after March 1st.

What to expect after you apply

After you apply, you will receive an email confirming we received your application. We'll contact you if any additional information is required.

Once we have all of the required application materials, the admissions committee will review your complete application packet. In some cases, the committee may request to interview you.

After the committee reviews your application, you will be notified of the decision by SOE.
