The IUPUI School of Education seeks a seasoned, passionate self-starter to further assist our School in defining the role of urban education in the 21st century through philanthropic support. The Director of Development will work in close collaboration with the Founding Dean of the School of Education to build a strategic development program capable of generating significant philanthropic support.
The position’s primary emphasis will be on the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual and major gifts. The Director will also work with the Indiana University Foundation to 1) secure gifts and grants from foundations and corporations and 2) conduct an analysis of current fundraising efforts and determine a strategy to enhance and grow the sources of support for the school in conjunction with the IU Foundation Vice President for Development for the IUPUI campus. This team player will assist in executing annual events, be a passionate advocate for the School of Education at IUPUI, and help maximize the success of each of its students, allowing them to leave their footprint on urban education throughout the state of Indiana and other major cities across the country.
Develop and implement a strategic and comprehensive development program including prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship to secure major and principal gifts, corporate and foundation support, and effective campaign management to advance the philanthropic support for the benefit of the School of Education-IUPUI.
Collaborate closely with the Dean, faculty, staff, Advisory Council, Indiana University Foundation, and other stakeholders to foster a common philanthropic mission and message. Manage a substantial portfolio of individual, foundation and corporate prospects. Work in concert with and function as a liaison between the Unit and the Indiana University Foundation. Actively participate in the Unit’s activities and events to foster support and engagement in development efforts. Ensure that all activities including contact reports are entered into the central development database in a consistent and timely manner.
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college. 3-5 years of experience with institutional development, with an emphasis on cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts from donors.
Experience soliciting gifts from corporations and foundations preferred. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Current or former work in a large capital campaign preferred. Knowledge of trends in urban education at all levels and industry knowledge including workforce development. Proficiency working with large databases, computers and MS Office programs.
Master’s degree. Experience in higher education.
