Biography

I was an elementary and middle school teacher for 10 years before earning a doctoral degree. This experience has guided my research, service, and teaching since becoming a university faculty member. I still spend considerable time in K-12 classrooms and regularly collaborate with teachers on research projects.

My current research focuses on helping students to become more critical readers in terms of being aware of how texts are positioning them as readers.
