Early Childhood Education Degree Requirements

Program Timeline and Courses

The Early Childhood Education program requires successful completion of all coursework with a grade of C or above plus successful completion of student teaching.

The following courses are three (3) credits each except Student-Teaching (14 credits) and unless stated otherwise:

  • EDUC T320 Sociocultural Learning in Urban Elementary Classrooms

  • EDUC E329 Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) in the Early Childhood Setting
  • EDUC K448 Families, School, and Society
  • EDUC E325 Social Studies Methods
  • EDUC E332 Math Methods
  • EDUC E340 Methods of Teaching Reading
  • EDUC M324 Teaching About the Arts
  • *CONCENTRATION ELECTIVE

*Passing scores on pedagogy and content area assessments are required by the State of Indiana in order to receive licensure

Special Education Dual Licensure

Course requirements

To get certified, you must take the following 18 credit hours in the appropriate sequence. You will also complete (7 Credit Hours) during student teaching to meet the requirements of this licensure program at IUPUI. You will also complete (7 Credit Hours) in ECE General Education student teaching at IUPUI) *student teaching may not be transferred in from another university/college

  • EDUC K465: Collaboration and Service Delivery (3)
  • EDUC K420: Assistive Technology in Special Education (3)

You will also spend part of your student teaching experience working with students with disabilities.

  • EDUC-L405 Second Language Learner, Literacy, and Instruction

*Student teaching must be completed at IUPUI over 16 weeks in an Early Childhood Setting P-3rd Grade
