In many Fairy Tales wolves are given a bad name. Think of Little Red Riding Hood or The Three Little Pigs, the wolf sure didn't make any friends in these stories! Working with a Fourth Grade Friend, you will discover the true world of wolves and decided for yourself where they should live!
After reading both a fiction and nonfiction story about wolves, and doing some investigation, you and your partner will:
·
make
a poster to convince others why wolves should not be allowed to become
extinct and live freely in National Parks. 1. Read one of the Fairy Tales with a wolf
in it. There is a list below in resources
if you would like an idea of a story to read. 2.
After
discussing the story, rewrite it from the wolf's point
Day 2 1. Read a story about real wolves.
You have a lot of choices. See the resource
list below. 2. Find one other group. Have a small
discussion about the books you have read. 3. You and your partner are to make a list
of questions about what you need to know about wolves before you would put
wolves in a National Park.
Day 3 1. Visit the website below to discover the
answers to many of your questions. 2.
Take
notes/draw pictures on what you find out.
Day 4 1. Read the information on the Yellowstone
Website. Pick one or two areas you would like to read
about. 2.
Discuss
with your partner why wolves should not be allowed to become extinct. 3.
Make
a list of at least 5 reasons why wolves should be in the National Park.
Day 5 1.
You
and your partner are to make a poster to convince
the rest of the classroom that wolves should be live in the National Parks,
and not be allowed to become extinct. Please state your case very
clearly. Be sure to use pictures! 2.
When
finished with the poster you and your partner may either read together or
make a book about all of the facts you have learned about wolves. You
and your partner will share your poster with the rest of the class. You
goal is to convince us that your position is the right one. Click here to see the evaluation.
Hopefully you will understand how controversial the issue is of putting the wolves back into the National Parks, and why wolves have such a bad name. You will also understand how wolves help the environment and that no animal should be allowed to become extinct! If you would like to read more or visit a local Wolf Park please click on the picture below. You can help
by bringing in change to support one of the wolves at the Battle Ground wolf
Park. Our goal is to collect $125. When we reach our goal we will
send our money to the Wolf Park to help support one wolf! You may view
the wolf we support, Apollo, at the above site by clicking on the wolf
picture. |
