Introduction

It's time to plan for that spring break vacation!  You and three friends have been saving forever towards the spring break of your dreams.  Now you need to decide on a destination for your vacation and make all travel arrangements.  In addition, you need to convince your parents that your destination choice is a wonderful place to go and that you do have it planned.  The following destinations are suggestions for your vacation site.

  • Caribbean Cruise
  • Europe
  • Disney World
  • Australia
  • Washington D.C.
  • Hawaii

Task

Decide on a vacation spot with your group members from the list given on this webquest.   Then your group needs to put together an 8-day, 7-night vacation package that you can give to your parents to let them know where you will be and some things you might be doing.  Each group member will have a different topic to research regarding your vacation spot.

After all group members have finished the research process, you will need to work together to create a brochure that can be given to your parents.  This can be done on the computer or using your own artistic abilities.  The brochure needs to include general information about your vacation spot, areas of historical and recreational interest, airfare, and lodging.

Process

Each of you decide to research a different area based on your interests.  The following roles will help define the task for each member.

Kimmy the Know It All:  Kimmy is in charge of finding all the general information about your vacation spot.  She knows you need to know where you are going as well as how to communicate and pay for things on yor vacation.  Information she finds out definitely needs to include...

  • a map of the site
  • geographic descriptions
  • major cities
  • population
  • calendars & currency
  • language(s) spoken

Harry the Historian:  Harry is in charge of providing the history of the vacation spot.  He is always ready to suggest places to go of historical or trivial interest.  Things he wants to find out include...

  • specific historical locations
  • tours and prices
  • schedules of tours
  • museums

Tammy the Travel Agent:  Tammy is in charge of all accommodations.  She tries to find a variety of places to stay, transportation methods, and places to eat for all wallet sizes.  Some information she is sure to find is...

  • transportation to destination
  • lodging
  • car rental and other transportation
  • dining accommodations

Roger the Recreation Director:  Roger is in charge of all activities for the vacation.  He loves to have fun, but he always tries to remember that some people sleep in while others are early risers, some people just like only-indoor or only-outdoor activities, and most people like a variety of things to do.  Information he tries to find includes...

  • indoor activities
  • outdoor activities
  • sporting events and schedules
  • specific daytime or nighttime activities
  • cost of each activity

Once all of you finish your research, you are ready to start writing up your information to be put in the brochure.  You want to persuade your parents that this trip is a great idea and that you are well prepared for your adventure.  Remember that persuasive writing includes many detailed descriptions, action verbs, and imaginative phrases.

Now you are ready to start putting your brochure together.  You may do this in one of two ways.  You can NEATLY cut and paste your information onto another sheet, OR you can demonstrate your technological capablities and create a computer generated brochure.  There is a color printer and scanner available to you if you need it.
