"Hear Ye ! hear Ye!"  Now that you have finished thy "royal Medieval novel", you are going to further explore the Medieval Times.  You have already designed your crest and learned some basic facts about the Medieval times.  Thy will now become a part of a "royal research group."  Thy journey begins...

WB00882_2.GIF (263 bytes)Task

This is a two part project.  One part will be done individually, and the other as a part of a group.

Your individual assignment is to research a person from the Middle Ages.  The person you research is your choice, however no more than one person from thy royal kingdom may research each historical person.  As you research this person, keep in mind that you will dress as this person and be video taped as you tell about your life.  You will also come to a Medieval feast as this person at the end of our unit.

As you research, find important facts about your Medieval person.  Include them in an outline.  After you finish your research, you will put your information into a 1st person speech, which will then be video taped in costume.

You will also be assigned to a group for a project.  Each group will be responsible for researching and presenting an area of the Medieval Times.  These areas include Feudalism, Knighthood, Education, Medieval Medicine, and Castles.  Each group should keep a research journal throughout this project.

The feudalism group will be responsible for finding out what feudalism is through research.  This group must use websites and books as resources.  These questions should be answered.

Throne.wmf (34972 bytes)            What was Feudalism?

                               How did Feudalism work?

What were the four classes of Feudalism?

What were some advantages of Feudalism?

What were the disadvantages of Feudalism?

After this group has finished its research, it will present the information to thy royal kingdom through PowerPoint, Hyperstudio, drama, or art.  Please verify your project with the "king" before you begin.

The knighthood group will be responsible for finding out about knights during the Medieval times.  This group will research through websites and books as resources.  These questions need to be answered.

What made someone eligible to become a knight.     knight2.gif (2711 bytes)

What were the stages one went through to become a knight?

How was a name chosen for a knight?

Were there different levels of knights?

After these questions have been answered, this group will present their information to the royal kingdom.  This presentation should be multi-media, such as Hyperstudio or PowerPoint, or by drama or art.  (A drama presentation of a dubbing would be nice.)  Please have presentation verified.

If you are assigned to the education group, you will be responsible for finding and presenting information about Medieval education.  This information must be found by using websites and books as resources.  While researching, find answers to these questions.

What kind of education did people receive?

            Who was given an education?

Who was responsible for educating people?

What kind of buildings were used for schools?

After you have found the answers to these questions, please choose a way to present it to the class by way of multi-media, video, posters, models, or drama.   Presentations need to be approved.

The Medicine group needs to research what kind of medicine was available and used during the Medieval times.  Please use websites and books as resources to find the information needed.  Try to answer these questions as you research.

Who was responsible for practicing medicine?

What kind of medicines were used?

What were some of the diseases?

What were some of the causes of these diseases?

Please present this information to the class as a multi-media presentation, art, or drama.  Please have presentation approved.

The final group will be researching castles.  This group will be researching what castles looked like inside and out.  Use websites and books as resources to find this information.  Please answer these questions as you research.

castle.gif (3072 bytes)            What were the architectural parts of the inside and outside of                             castles?

                           Who lived in the castles?

What was used to defend castles?

Who were some figures of royalty that lived in castles during                              the Medieval times?

After you have researched these questions, this group needs to make a presentation.  The presentation should be multi-media, (Hyperstudio or PowerPoint), art, or a model.  Please have presentation approved by your "King!"

Your group will be evaluated on the following:

How well did you divide responsibilities within the group?

Did your group answer the four questions during the research?

After individual and group projects are completed, your king will provide       you with a Medieval Celebration.  This will include a feast and Medieval         games and crafts.  You must, however, come to the celebration dressed as      the Medieval person you researched individually.  Hopefully you have found      this to be a project in which much was learned, and it has been fun!
