The Harlem
Renaissance is a period in African-American history that was full of innovation
and change for many African-Americans. Many events during the Harlem
Renaissance have influenced and affected the lives of many today. The
Harlem Renaissance was a time of fun and expression. Although the
renaissance was over 70 years ago, this virtual tour will allow you to see and
hear the sights and sounds of
The following are the roles that you will take on as you travel through your tour of the Harlem Renaissance:
Historian: Describe the Harlem Renaissance history and
leadership
Poet/Writer: Describe the
influence of writing on the
Renaissance and famous writers/poets.
Musician: Describe the music
of the Harlem Renassaince and some of the influential
musical figures of this era.
Artist: Describe the
influence of art on the Harlem Renaissance and those
artist who had an influence on this period.
Your task in this Harlem Renaissance WebQuest is to convince the Children's Museum in your area to consider an exhibit on the Harlem Renaissance. In order to prepare for your presentation you will join a team and take on one of the roles listed above. You and your teammates will prepare written reports that relate to your specific area by addressing certain research questions. As a group, you will create a Hyperstudio presentation for your classmates that will display the various parts you researched. Your presentation must include some of your research findings from your area,soundbytes and photos that relate/illustrate the Harlem Renaissance. Also as an added bonus to your presentation group members will dress in costume from the Harlem Renaissance era.
Process:
To begin the process, you will need to do the following in order to stay on task:
1. Keep focused on the project at hand and be sure to answer all of the research questions.
2. Work together.
3. Use your resources and time wisely.
Instructions:
1. Decide what role each person will take in your group.
2. Once you have selected your roles click on the picture that
appears next to
the role you have chosen.
3. Read the instructions to understand your individual task:
Analyze
how your role relates to the other group members.
4. Once you have completed your individual research you must then as
a group brainstorm and develop ideas for your Hyperstudio
presentation.
Hyperstudio Presentation Instructions:
1. Your presentation must have at least 5 cards.
2. Your cards must include information from each of the four researched
areas.
3. Your cards must include photos (which may be scanned in or accessed
from
the Internet.
4. Your cards must include sound bytes that can be obtained from the
Internet.
5. Be sure to use your creativity, remember you
want the board to approve of
ideas for an exhibit.
