Introduction

As Americans we are proud of our country and the United States flag. Every morning at school we recite the Pledge of Allegiance.  Other countries in the world have their own flags, too.

In this webquest, you will learn about various countries and their flags. You will “visit” another country in search of its location on the map, what its flag looks like, and three other interesting facts about that country.

At the end of this project, we will have a world exhibit to display the information about the countries and pictures of the flags.  We will vote on which country has the best flag to be the host country of our exhibit.

Task

Your job is to choose a country to “visit” by doing research about it.  You will present your information to the class at the end of the unit.

You will need to find out:

Where is your country located?

What does your country’s flag look like?
            What color is it?
            What symbols are on it?
What is the meaning of it?

Find out 3 more interesting facts about your country.

After answering the questions, you will put together the information you have gathered onto a poster.  You will then present it to the class and convince them that your country’s flag is the best.

Process

Step 1 – Location of your country

Click on the map to find the location of your country. Print out your map to paste onto your poster. Indicate the location of your country.

Step 2 – Country Flag

Click on the flags to find your country’s flag. Print out a copy of your flag to put on your poster.

Step 3 - Find Information

Click on the globe to find information about your country and its flag.

Step 4 - Take Notes

Write down the information you find on a graphic organizer. Click on the pencil to find the graphic organizer and print it out.

Step 5 - Type Report

Use your graphic organizer to write your information in paragraph form on the computer using Microsoft Word. Print it out.

Step 6 - Make Poster

Make a poster about your country and its flag. Include your map, flag picture, and report. You may also use markers or crayons to add details to your poster. Be creative!

Step 7 - Presentation

Present your poster to the class and tell about your country and its flag. Try to convince the class that your country has the best flag and should be the host of the exhibit.

There is flexibility in the amount of time chosen to spend on each activity. The teacher should guide the students through each step of the process due to the language in the in the links and the age of the students.
