Ancient Egypt: A Webquest

You will be traveling back in time to the year 2125 B.C. to Ancient Egypt. You will arrive on the banks of the River Nile, the longest river in the world, to begin your journey. Egyptians base most of their lives around the Nile and depend on it for survival. The land is more than 90% desert so the                                                   weather is hot, dry, and humid.

Tasks

During your journey, you will complete a travel log of your experiences. Your travel log should include the following items:

·         Supply list of items needed for your trip

·         3 paragraphs describing popular sites of Egypt

·         Illustrations of the mummification process

·         One interesting fact about the Pyramids of Giza

·         A list of the functions of each part of a pyramid

·         A timeline of selected pharaohs and queens

·         A cartouche with your name written in hieroglyphics

The Process and Resources

To accomplish the above tasks you need to follow these steps:

1.  Locate a map of Ancient Egypt.  This will be the first item of your supply list. Determine information that you will need to know for your trip such as the temperature, food, transportation, etc. Come up with a list of at least five items that you will need to take with you.

2.  Explore three popular sites of Ancient Egypt using the links below.  Write a descriptive paragraph about each of your choices.

Pyramids of Giza

Valley of the Kings

The Nile Valley

Great Sphinx

Rosetta Stone

King Tut's Tomb

3.  Visit this site about mummies.  Illustrate each step in your travel log.

4.  Check out this neat site on the pyramids.  As you are exploring the site, find one interesting fact about the Pyramids of Giza and record it in your travel log.

5.  Using the same pyramid link, research the parts of pyramids and describe the function of each one in your travel log.

6.  Using the paper provided, make a timeline placing the pharaohs and queens in chronological order.  The following pharaohs and queens should be included in your timeline:

King Tutankhamen

King Rammses II

Nefertiti and Akhenaten

Queen Hatshepsut

King Amenhotep IV
