DINOSAUR TRACKING

Congratulations!  You have been selected by Dan the dinosaur lover to create a map showing dinosaur tracks, and where they are found.  With these maps, Dan hopes to locate the tracks and bring them back to display in his new museum.

The Task

Your mission is to investigate dinosaur tracks.  You will discover what different dinosaur tracks look like, and where they are found.  In order to have your map approved by Dan, you will need the following:

     1.  A map displaying your work.

     2.  A list of vocabulary words and their meanings.

     3.  Pictures of different types of dinosaurs.

The Process

You will need to complete the following items in order to complete this task:

     1.  Determine if you will be working independently or with a group.

     2.  Start a journal to record information and thoughts as you work.  Make sure you write down any information you think you might need later.

     3.  When you have enough information to complete a map, discuss  your results with another group.  Make any changes or revisions at this time.

     4.  Construct a map of locations where dinosaur tracks have been  found.  Write a detailed script incorporating the information you  gathered from the internet and the library.  Be sure to include a  list of vocabulary words.

     5.  Create an educational display, including your map, journal, vocabulary list, and any pictures or items you have gathered.

     6.  Plan and present your project to Dan the dinosaur lover.

Learning Advice

Working as a group- Make sure you use your time wisely.  Try dividing up tasks so that each person has a job. Make sure you're using your journal to record information.

Gathering Information- Try to keep your journal organized.  For example, title a different page for each topic.  Leave enough paper in between for your information.

Be sure to use many resources to find information.  Resources may include encyclopedias, books, TV, CD's, laser discs, or any expert that you can contact by phone or by mail.

Educational Display- The display is a way for you to show the class your discoveries.  You may want to use poster board, video, or a computer to show your work.

Reflection

1.  What was the one thing you will remember most from this activity?

2.  If you could change one thing about this activity what would it be?

3.  How did you feel about working with your group/alone?

4. What part of your project makes you feel most proud?

Conclusion

During this activity you investigated dinosaurs and their tracks.  Based on this and what you learned from other presentations, what did you learn about dinosaurs?
