Congratulations!! You have been
chosen as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association final
selection committee. It is your group's job to decide on the most
appropriate location for the 2005 men's basketball Final Four games. The
committee is composed of four members which will each have a specific area of
expertise. Your team will have 3 cities from which to chose.
The three locations are The Georgia Dome in
After your committee has chosen the Final Four city, you will need to create a PowerPoint presentation to promote the city. It will need to include information about hotel accommodations, travel arrangements, entertainment, and the sport arena. This presentation needs to include a map, pictures of the city, and pictures of the arena to support your decision.
**The first step is to assign one of the following jobs to each person in the committee. The Resource area will help each member fulfill his/her job requirement.
Entertainment Manager
This person will be in charge of researching the possible entertainment opportunities of each city. Some areas to search may be shopping, movies, restaurants, and other special events.
Travel Expert
Travel is an important aspect of picking the appropriate city. The travel expert will need to consider the proximity to a major airport, rental car availability, and public transportation.
Lodging Specialist
Many fans will be traveling from out of town. The hotel accommodations will be very important. Consider the convenience of the hotels to the arena. The hotels should appeal to a wide variety of spectators. The city will need to be able to provide lodging for about 25,000 people.
Arena Consultant
The arena should be close to the hotels, parking, entertainment, and travel options. The NCAA would like to seat as many spectators as possible. This person must consider the practice areas for the four teams.
Below are websites that will help you find the information that you need to finish this project. However, you are not limited to these websites. I recommend that your group uses books as well as travel brochures to get a more indepth look at each city and venue.
Technology has become a very useful way to problem solve. By completing this webquest, your group has not only learned about cooperation, but you have probably also become more aware of how helpful technology can be. Congratulations on your hard work and on a job well done!
You will be graded as a group and as an individual. These grades will be separate and based on different criteria.
Group members will be graded individually on:
the completeness of his/her assigned job
the reasoning behind the chosen city explained in the PowerPoint presentation
the cooperativeness of the individual within the group
The group will also get a grade based on:
overall appearance and content of the PowerPoint presentation
