What Is The GRE?
The Graduate Record Exam (General Test) measures skills that have been
developed over a long period of time and are not necessarily related to any
particular field of study. The test is composed of analytical writing, verbal
and quantitative sections.
The test can be taken Computer Based or Paper Based.

Who Must Take The GRE?
Students seeking admission to a master’s degree program in the following categories:
- All School Counseling applicants
- All Urban Principal applicants, except those who have a 3.5 or higher overall
undergraduate GPA.
- All Educational Leadership applicants, except those who have a 3.2 or higher
overall undergraduate GPA.
- All Elementary, Secondary, Language and Special Education applicants, except
those who have a 3.0 or higher overall undergraduate GPA.

When Should I Take The GRE?
It is recommended that you take the test before applying to IUPUI, as it can
take several weeks or more for your official scores to be received by the School
of Education.

How Do I Register To Take The GRE?
To register for the paper-and-pencil test, students register through the Educational
Testing Services (ETS). The information for registering for tests is also
available on line at http://www.ets.org/gre.
Students can register for computer-based testing (CBT) through Candidate Services
at Prometric, a division of Thompson Learning by calling 1-800-853-6773 for
further information about registration procedures. There are two Indianapolis
testing centers that give computer-based tests.

Where Can I Get More Information about the GRE?
Information is available at the Educational Testing website www.ets.org/gre. Test preparation books are
available at the public library and local bookstores. There are also some websites
that offer free study guides.
