Registration for Summer 1 begins April 4th

For 6 week courses (May 13 – June 24), students must register during the Summer 1 registration period (April 4 – May 12) to avoid late fees.

For intensive courses (1, 2 or 4 week sessions), students may register until the day BEFORE the course starts without a late fee.  Late registration fees are applied the day the course begins.  

EXAMPLE:   For a workshop that meets June 15 – 26th,
students can register April 4 – June 14 without a late fee.

About the Instructor:  Dr. Walcott, a former middle grades and secondary mathematics teacher, is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education at Indiana University - Columbus. Dr. Walcott teaches courses in pre-service teacher education on the Columbus campus as well as the Assessment in Schools course at IUPUI. Dr. Walcott's research interests include student achievement trends on national and state assessments, the uses of technology in math classrooms, and mathematics learning in contexts.

About the Instructor:  Stephanie is a Special Education Instructional Coach for Indianapolis Public Schools and an adjunct professor of Special Education at IUPUI.  She is primarily working with the Elementary Division with the Full Purpose Partnership Schools. Stephanie has taught both general education and special education students at the elementary level in a variety of settings.  Stephanie was also an elementary assistant principal and an elementary principal.  She is interested in working with the Response to Intervention project and Positive Behavior Supports with the Full Purpose Partnership Schools in IPS.

About the Instructor: Dr. Blackwell is an Associate Professor of Early Childhood and Elementary education in the School of Education at Indiana University - Indianapolis. From 2003-2005, Jacqueline served as President of the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI). About the Instructor: Dr. Osborn is the assistant to Indiana Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard for Court History and Public Education. Dr. Osborn is responsible for creating the Court’s award-winning educational outreach program, “Courts in the Classroom” (www.in.gov/judiciary/citc/). She received her Ph.D. in U.S. history from Indiana University in 2004. About the Instructor:  Amanda Abel, an international counselor and teacher from Asia over the past 10 years, is an adjunct professor for the School of Education at Indiana University – Indianapolis. She has experience with third culture families, a new development as globalization continues to spread. Her last post at a UN school sharpened her competence and workshop skills with the growing global population of TCK’s.   Ms. Abel has presented the TCK material several times to professionals outside of the states. She is currently teaching at a private middle school in Indy and enjoys facilitating workshops with adults.

Course Description:  The “third culture kid” (TCK) is a phenomena that is growing in many parts of the world. TCK refers to someone who has spent a significant period of time in one or more culture(s) other than his or her own, thus integrating elements of those cultures and their own birth culture, into a third culture.  Teachers need to be equipped to deal with this new student in the classroom. Characteristic and skills to deal with these special students will be discussed and practiced in the workshop. This is a new topic for the states, but has 20 years of research supporting the concepts.  There are roughly 5 million people leaving abroad and with the economics changing moves cross-culturally will most likely continue to rise. About the Instructor: Dr. Buzzelli is a Professor of Early Childhood Education at Indiana University - Bloomington. He has been a preschool teacher and supervisor of student teachers. He joined the IUB faculty in 1993 and since that time has taught courses in early childhood education.

Course Description: The focus of this course is on how to plan appropriate learning experiences for all young children (birth through age 8).
