The IUPUI Urban Principal Master´s Program is an urban-focused program which leads to a Master´s Degree in Educational Leadership and can also be accessed for preparation for building level administrator certification in the state of Indiana.

The program is structured through two intensive summer experiences of five weeks each summer with additional online courses augmented by seminars during the school year and the practicum conducted during the entire program.

The program focuses on providing preparation at school sites to allow greater interaction with school-based problems and issues. Embedded in the delivery of instructional blocks is an emphasis on skills principals need for success in this era of accountability, including training in relationship building, collaboration, data analysis, and systems thinking. Strategies to provide training in leadership practice include reflective opportunities, action research, integrated course content, educational rounds, mentoring, and coaching. The culminating experience for the program is a capstone component, which incorporates portfolio evidence, reflective analysis, and performance based assessment through an inquiry project.
