Graduate Academic Programs Transition to Teaching Click here to go to the T2T Program Page or continue reading for general information. The T2T is a rigorous, full-time, immersion program. Candidates in this program spend two semesters full time in schools while taking coursework during the academic year and summer sessions. Candidates earn licensing for middle and high school teaching. Eligible individuals must have a regionally accredited bachelor’s degree with a 3.0 or better GPA overall and in their major, or a 2.5 GPA and 5 years of teaching experience. Individuals who have earned a master’s degree from an accredited institution are eligible regardless of their bachelor’s GPA. Math and science majors only can be considered for the T2T program with an undergraduate GPA of 2.8 or higher. Individuals who are accepted into the program will be eligible for financial aid. Eligibility for the program is determined by a transcript evaluation. The program consists of 18 credit hours which apply toward a master’s degree if the student maintains a 3.3 GPA and chooses to pursue a master’s in Secondary Education at IUPUI after the certification is complete. The IUPUI T2T program offers licensure in the areas of Math, Science, French, German, Spanish, English, and Social Studies (social studies licensure is available in the areas of history, geography, political science, economics, sociology, and psychology). Students may also opt to pursue a dual license in Reading, English as a New Language, or Special Education in addition to their primary licensure area. Click here for further information on dual licenses. No other areas of licensing are available through the T2T program. Individuals who seek to teach in an area outside of their undergraduate major must earn a major in that area before being admitted to a T2T program. All coursework related to completing a major must be finished before the individual is allowed to begin a T2T cohort. Course requirements are identified during the transcript evaluation by the School of Education academic advising staff. This program begins in Summer II (end of June) each year, and lasts through the fall, spring, and summer of the following year. Classes meet two nights per week during the summer and 5 days per week from 8 to 5 during the spring and fall semesters with an additional evening seminar which meets one to two evenings a week. Student teaching is done during the course of the program.
