Graduate Academic Programs

Second Degree Program

Candidates must have a regionally accredited bachelor’s degree to be eligible for this program. There is no minimum GPA requirement. However, students must maintain a 2.5 GPA in the coursework they complete for their second degree program. Because this program leads to a degree, students may be eligible for financial aid. Student’s transcripts are evaluated for all requirements of the undergraduate program. Usually this means taking 70-90 credit hours, which includes the two-year Learning to Teach/Teaching to Learn Program. This program takes around three years to complete on a full time basis. Click here for further information on this program.

Successful candidates will receive a second degree and will be eligible to be certified to teach grades 5 through 12 in their major area if secondary students and kindergarten through 12th grade if they are all grades physical education or art students.

Students may opt to do dual certification in Reading, English as a New Language, or Special Education with this program. This would increase the number of credit hours taken, but not necessarily the length of the program.

Because this is a second-degree program, students must apply online as an undergraduate degree student through the Office of Admissions. Once admitted to IUPUI, students would seek advising in the School of Education. If you want to speak with an advisor before enrolling please contact the proper advisor using the information here.
