The Young Scholars Program, sponsored by the IUPUI School of Education looks forward to another exciting summer.  Young Scholars Program classes will be offered for students entering grades 1 through 9.  Classes will be taught by experienced teachers, IUPUI faculty and/or practicing professionals.

This year, we will offer two sessions, each one week in length:

Session 1: June 18 – June 22
Session 2: June 25 - June 29

Students will choose one class, which will meet in the morning and afternoon and have lunch on campus. Students entering grades 1 through 9 will sign up for their class based upon the following groupings:

Early Scholars: Entering Grades 1 and 2
Beginning Scholars: Entering Grades 3 and 4
Junior Scholars: Entering Grades 5 and 6
Whaz UP!: Entering Grades 7, 8 and 9 (email address required!)

Admission

  1. Students and parents should carefully consider the students’ motivation and interest in participating in the Young Scholars program. All classes will be geared toward students desiring challenging, creative, fast-paced and high-level work. Parents should feel reasonably sure that the students are motivated to participate in this type of program.
  2. Class size is limited to 15 students. To ensure a spot in the class of your choice, register AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Tuition Fees

$175 per week for all age groups.

Registration and Confirmation
  1. Completely fill out ALL areas of the form, indicating your first and second choice of classes.
  2. Enclose full payment for all sessions for which you are registering. Payment can be via money order, check or Visa/MasterCard. Make checks or money orders payable to School of Education IUPUI.
  3. If a class is full or there is a problem with your registration, we will contact you immediately.
  4. Within two weeks of receipt of your registration, you will receive a confirmation.
  5. Email addresses will be used to communicate quickly with scholars and parents.
  6. Please consult the following sections of this brochure for arrival and dismissal procedures and lunch arrangements.

Drop 0ff Information

Drop off will be from 9:00 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. each morning in the parking lot located at the corner of University Blvd. and New York Street, in Lot #81.  Watch for the sign on each Monday.  Drive your child/children up to the sidewalk in front of the ES Building for drop off.  Young Scholar staff members will be there to greet your child/children. 

If you arrive after 9:15 a.m. please walk your child to the steps in the courtyard on the North side of the ES building.

9:15 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Camp Meeting
9:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. AM Class Meeting

3:30 p.m. -  4:00 p.m. Pick Up**

***Parents need to arrange for After Care by filling out the enclosed form and paying the After Care fee.

PLEASE NOTE:  PARENTS WILL BE CHARGED $6 PER CHILD IF CHILD/CHILDREN ARE NOT PICKED UP BY 4:05 P.M.

AFTER 4:05 CHILDREN NEED TO BE  PICKED UP FROM THE AFTER CARE ROOM—Location of the After Care Room will be posted on the ES Building doors.

Pick Up Information

Pick up will be from 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the same parking lot as Drop Off.( Lot # 81)  * Please note:  you must complete the “Authorized Pick-up” information sheet included in this brochure.  Only authorized adults from the Registration Form will be allowed to pick up children from 3:30-4:00 and from After Care.   Authorized adult must carry picture ID.

Any students who have not been picked up by 4:05 will be taken to the After Care Room. Parents will then need to pick up their child/children from the After Care Room (location of After Care Room will be posted on the ES Building doors).  There will be a $6.00 charge per child if you are late picking up your child/children.

After Care Information

After Care is being offered for those students who must stay after 4:00 p.m..  After care is from 4:00 pm to 5:15 p.m.

The fee for the After Care service is $30 per child per week.  Individual days are $6.00 per child per day. 

A late fee of $6.00 per every 15 minutes will apply to all individuals picking up students after 5:15 p.m. from After Care.

Students will be supervised by Young Scholars Program staff during After Care.  Authorized adult will be asked to sign a form upon picking up their child/children.  Only authorized adults from the Registration Form will be allowed to pick up children.  Authorized adult pick up must carry picture ID.

To participate in After Care, please fill out the After Care Registration Form and return with payment before the program begins.

Lunch Arrangements

The Young Scholars will be eating in the University College Food Court from approximately 12:00 noon until 12:30 p.m.  Students may bring their lunches.  Please do not send food items that need to be refrigerated.  

Students may purchase their lunches in the food court or from vending machines in the food court.  Drinks and snacks may also be purchased in the food court. 

Students will be supervised by counselors during the entire lunchtime.  Weather permitting, students may be playing in the courtyard between the University College and the ES Building following lunch and preceding their PM Class.

Open House on Friday of Each Session

On Friday of each session, following the day’s activities, we will be hosting an open house from 3:15 – 4:00 p.m. in the regular meeting rooms of the classes. Classroom information and maps will be available in the entrances of the ES Building. The Lego Robots Class Open House will be held in the Engineering Technology Building, ET224. 

This open house will give family and friends an opportunity to see what the students have been learning during their exciting week in the Young Scholars Program.  Only Authorized Adults from the Registration Form will be allowed to pick up students from the Open House.  Authorized Adults must carry picture ID.
